Green Fishing Line
Cheatomorpha sp.

I haven’t seen this published as the official common name, but I call it “Green Fishing Line”, and some people may honestly believe it is just that.  When you pick it up, it even has a stiff nylon texture and no fish attached on the end like most fishing lines (especially my husband’s).  It is filamentous in structure, meaning that the cells are joined end to end in a long strand — similar to weekday traffic in Boston.   More than one species exists from the Atlantic Provinces to New England (1).
